Mother's come in all forms
Jennifer Aniston said it best in her January 2015 interview with Allure magazine, “I don’t like [the pressure] that people put on me, on women — that you’ve failed yourself as a female because you haven’t procreated. I don’t think it’s fair"
People sometimes forget to see that, even the Women who have not physically birthed a child, are just as much Mother's to this beautiful nation of children, as the ones who have. I have the pleasure of calling so many women in my life "friends" and of that group of women there are many different types of Mothers.
My sister in law, is not a Mother of her own, but loves my children with an all encompassing love. A love that only a Mother can give. She nurtures their hopes and dreams, she listens to their wild imagination, she invests time into their sports, and knows all of their current situations. She may not take them home at night and yes she did not birth them from her womb, but my God does this woman show an incredible selfless love for these children.
In high school my best friend was sure to be the first of us to have a plethora of babies, yet time would show that this was not in the cards for her. While she could sit back and hate the world for the hand she was dealt, she has learned to love children in a much more life changing way. My friend teaches History to hundreds of High school kids. She was blessed with the ability to make an impact on these young minds. To give them hope in a world that is vastly on the outs right now. She nurtures their minds and feeds their ambitions to be better humans.
Last night I went out to dinner and saw a friend I hadn't seen in a while. She was sitting at a table with what appeared to be her significant other and his kids. I smiled, there she sat gently showing these kids the menu and helping them choose what to eat. What a beautiful sight to see. This woman has no Motherly connection to these kids, however her Maternal desire is to care for them and nurture them to the best of her abilities.
As women, it is in our DNA to care for these children, whether they are created in our bodies or put in our paths by God himself. Let's stop making women feel less than if they choose to or find they can not have children. We are a powerful species and if we learned to respect one another and the roles we truly play in the lives of the children around Us, we will quickly see that God designed everyone for an exact purpose.
Mothers come in all forms, caregivers, teachers, aunts, friends ,neighbors, pediatricians and the ones who give birth to them. We all work to raise them, nurture them, ease their pains and speak love into their lives. Let's be a nation of Women who respect the fact that we are all Mother's at our core.
